Yamoussoukro is the capital of Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa. It lies inland, northwest of the economic and cultural center of the country, the coastal city of Abidjan. The city is famous for the imposing Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix de Yamoussoukro basilica, with its stained glass windows and its dome dominating the building. The town is the birthplace of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who served in the 20th century, and whose former palace had a lagoon filled with crocodiles
